It’s a new day. Brand new. As good as new. Better than new. What’s new with you? He makes all things new. A New life In Christ.
If you haven’t guessed yet, this article has to do with new.
New, as defined in the dictionary, is:
New: not existing before; made, introduced, or discovered recently or now for the first time.
People experience all kinds of feelings when they encounter newness. Excitement, anticipation, worry, and hesitation are just a few. Some like the idea of shiny and new. Some fear the unknown of that which is new.
Where do you fall on the spectrum? I’m sure it depends on the situation. My personal checklist for the love or hate of something new would look something like this:
- New shoes? YAY
- New change to my schedule? Eh… :/
- New restaurant in town? Yahoo!
- New co-worker at work? Um…not sure yet
The pattern I see with my reactions is that non-threatening new is always exciting, but anything that holds any level of threat to my current comfort or security is cause to pause.
A New Life In Christ
Yet God says in His word in Isaiah 43:19, “Behold I’m doing a new thing”. Then He follows it with “don’t you perceive it? Don’t you see it coming? I’m making a way.”
No matter where you are in your walk with our Lord, He is always doing something new. Why? Because He always working on drawing people to Him… and sometimes that’s gonna involve us and rock our world a bit. Sometimes it’s exciting and super fun. Sometimes, we grip something tight and eek a little bit but we gotta trust Him.
I know that for me anyway, even in seasons of humdrum, security, certainty, I can always feel the “new” bubbling under the surface. It’s always coming. But I can trust God because I know the reason for new is “He’s making a way”. A way for me? Maybe. A way for others? Probably. A way for what? I don’t know but I know it always leads to glorifying Him and I’m always on board with that. Are you?
A Daily Dose of New
Today I’m thinking about new because I’m about to put out a new book with my dear friend, Megan Monterrosa. Why? Because God has birthed something NEW in the hearts of many people and I hope to be their friend along the way. This book will hopefully be the companion many are looking for as they begin their journey with Christ and others. Will you pray with us that many will receive it, and daily seek out the meaning and trajectory of their new life in Christ?
